Kings Norton Golf Club
History
The Clubhouse at Kings Norton incorporates a Grade 2 Listed Hall which has been extended since the Golf Club obtained its lease in 1967 so that it now provides extensive facilities for the enjoyment of Members and Visitors.
The original house was built circa 1750 by James Mynors. His ancestor Robert rebuilt it in 1884 together with the outbuildings we see today. Weatheroak Hall was the family home of the Mynors for 150 years from 1785 to 1935 when the estate was acquired by the Bournville Village Trust.

The idea of relocating from the original site was first put forward in 1966 by the then Captain, Cyril Wharrad to “protect” the future of the club from the inevitable requirement to build further housing in Birmingham, which was met with considerable resistance. In November 1966 the members held a special meeting and after much debate and listening to the offer from Birmingham Corporation voted in favour of moving to a brand new site.
Many sites were looked at including Cofton Hackett, Druids Heath and Barnt Green, all of which were rejected for the preferred option of Weatheroak Hall and its 176 acres that would be leased for a period of 150 years from Bournville Village Trust at a cost of £95,000 and an annual rent of £1.00 per year.
Over the next few years 27 holes and a 12-hole short course were constructed, Weatheroak Hall went through a refurbishment process and the ballroom, club house, pro shop and changing room extensions were completed before the 1st shot was hit on the yellow loop on 1st November 1970.
The official opening took place in June 1971 with a Pro Am being held with some of the leading professionals of the day including Maurice Bembridge, Malcolm Gregson & Dale Hayes playing together with Henry Cooper and Douglas Bader.
In 1972 an exhibition match took place between Lee Trevino, who had only won The Open the week before and Max Faulkner.
The club continued to host professional tournaments with more big names such as Jacklin, Weiskopf and Ballesteros competing.
The club has moved from strength to strength and in 2022 celebrated its 130th anniversary.
